The Florida Department of State issued Mark T080000004 on April 11, 2008, for the service mark INFRAPEOPLE™ and slogan “THE PEOPLE WE COUNT ON MOST” as “being used in connection with SECURING AFFORDABLE HOUSING & HOUSING SUPPORT SERVICES; WEB SITE FOR NETWORKING & INFORMATION FOR NURSES, TEACHERS, LAW, FIRE, RESCUE PROF” the US Trademark examining attorney initiated an office action requesting the INFRAPEOPLE™ service mark be registered worded as follows:

"providing a website featuring online information in the field of affordable housing, namely, real property acquisition and consumer financing to facilitate home ownership for civil service and community professionals namely law enforcement professionals fire and rescue professionals teachers and nurses;

Although housing prices are dropping almost daily, people who provide our most vital services still can’t afford them. City, county, state, education and healthcare budgets are facing dramatic shortfalls. Staffing and overtime cuts already dig deep into our communities’ vital services. Fortunately, our law enforcement professionals, fire and rescue professionals, teachers and nurses remain committed to delivering quality vital services despite dwindling resources, and often dwindling pay. Unfortunately, housing costs are forcing these committed and highly trained people to leave our communities.

 We can’t stand idly by while ‘the fed’ bails out large financial institutions and big real estate investors. We – as individuals and communities – must consolidate every resource, find every empty house, locate every reputable, low interest mortgage source, and anything else it takes to create affordable housing for the people we count on most.

A few communities have been proactive. Key West has a teacher housing program http://www.keysschools.com/Housing/default.asp
 and the state of Alaska actively develops housing resources
but programs like these are rare.

HUD’s ‘Good Neighbor Next Door’ program inadvertently addresses this crisis as part of neighborhood revitalization projects. http://www.hud.gov/offices/hsg/sfh/reo/goodn/main.cfm

According to HUD’s website, Good Neighbor Next Door participants must meet the following criteria (direct quote from HUD website):

“Law Enforcement
You may participate in the Good Neighbor Next Door program as a law enforcement officer if you are employed full-time by a law enforcement agency of the federal government, a state, a unit of general local government, or an Indian tribal government; and, in carrying out such full-time employment, you are sworn to uphold, and make arrests for violations of, federal, state, tribal, county, township, or municipal laws.

Teachers
You may participate in the Good Neighbor Next Door program as a Teacher if you are employed as a full-time teacher by a state-accredited public school or private school that provides direct services to students in grades pre-kindergarten through 12. In addition, the public or private school where you are employed as a teacher must serve students from the area where the home you are purchasing is located in the normal course of business.

Firefighter/Emergency Medical Technicians
You may participate in the Good Neighbor Next Door program as a Firefighter/Emergency Medical Technician if you are employed full-time as a firefighter or emergency medical technician by a fire department or emergency medical services responder unit of the federal government, a state, unit of general local government, or an Indian tribal government serving the area where the home is located.” HUD

Individual Membership in INFRAPEOPLETM is open to people who meet the HUD definition as well as licensed nurses (RN, LVN/LPN) who are employed full-time in nursing.

Individual Membership benefits such as rent discounts, lease purchase home ownership, low cost credit repair and direct access to every resource offered by Housing Industry Professional Members and Corporate Members are in development.
